To use an analogy, if I was the victim of assault in the workplace, I’d want my union to protect me and my coworkers from further harm from the perpetrator by upholding their suspension to its full extent.
By reducing the suspension it sends the message that the behaviour is tolerated. Or at the very least isn’t viewed as a serious offence. You want it to be a deterrent to both the offending player and other players.
It’s moot anyways since no player would ever ask for advocacy of that kind. They’d be ostracized by their peers.
