The key point here is that this was a split-second incident without premeditation. It's interference and if it were up to me the head contact would be an automatic major. But not "dirty" in the sense that Gudbranson was taking a cheap shot.

This was not a split second decision. He has Dube lined up and comes in and finishes the check when the puck isn’t even close to either of them. This his was 100% predatory and 0% reactionary. It was a cheap shot on an unsuspecting player. Why was Dube unsuspecting? Because the puck was no where near him.
