It doesn’t matter if the power play scored or not, Hamonic was still going to stand up for Dube and he was still going to have his jaw broken.

As a coach, you have to understand the rules, the culture, the players on both teams and prepare for situations like what happened.

It was stupid of Peters to not have been prepared and to put Hamonic in that position. Hamonic had no choice, in his mind, given what happened last year, given the situation with a rookie, he had to do what he did.

The fault lies here with Peters for putting Hamonic in that position. Peters went into a gun fight with a knife and now he’s lost one of his top defenceman and all you haters of toughness now get Prout for an extended period instead of just two games to start the season.

It’s all fine if you want fighting out of the game, the problem is, it’s not and you have to prepare and make line up decisions that reflect the potential condions of a game. Hamonic could not “just let it go”, it would destroy the team bond and chemistry that they wanted to build. They can’t talk about sticking up for each other all training camp and then not respond when that happens to a rookie and no, scoring on the power play would not have been a measured response.
