The fact of the matter is, Wilson could have completed his check without knocking the player to kingdom come. In football, you can no longer tackle the QB by putting all of your weight on him as you fall on him. In theory, you can put as much into the tackle as you need to, but cannot simply crush him because you have.
Wilson didn't need to hit him like he did regardless of the head shot.
With concussions playing a part in a players long term health and career etc., the league is clearly trying to get needless hits like this out of hockey.
That's good on them.
