He'll clear.

If anyone claims Rittich, it will probably be a team with a backup goalie who can be sent down without waivers. There are only two of these according to CapFriendly:
- Rangers: Alexander Georgiev, 22, undrafted, unimpressive in the AHL so far, hardly any NHL experience.
- Predators: Juuse Saros, 23, Nashville's goalie of the future, rock-solid behind Rinne to date.
Obviously the Preds would be fools to downgrade from Saros to Rittich, and David Poile is no fool. That leaves the Rangers.
There is also a small chance that some team with an aging backup who is beginning to drool on his skates (I'm looking at you, Montreal) would try using waivers to trade in on a newer model. Or that some team whose GM has a history of making goofy decisions (I'm not saying Vancouver, you know, just saying) decides to play silly buggers with his goaltending.
If the Rangers are sold on Georgiev, I'd say there is no real risk in waiving Rittich. Someone familiar with that organization could probably say more about that.
