Back in the early 90s, the Flames had an interesting wrinkle on the power play. Every so often, just for a change-up, they would have Al MacInnis shoot a slapper deliberately wide, so it would bounce hard off the end boards towards the slot. When it worked, the man down low got a chance at an easy tap-in, and even when it didn't, it kept the opposition guessing. It was a pretty good percentage play.

The key is not to telegraph that the shot is going wide. Since Stone's shots can basically end up anywhere, he could probably manage that.
