I hate to say this, especially in this thread. But if the league didn't learn to stop him after his 1st Art Ross season, they sure aren't going to magically learn after his 2nd. If anything, he's been the one who has adapted and learned how to avoid them. But that's all moot since luckily we aren't relying on McDavid having a down season for the Oilers to falter. It's the leftovers outside of McD, Draisatl and possibly RNH who will complete the season of failure. I would love nothing more then to see McD have a subpar season in the 1st season of his new contract. But it's pure homerism to suggest he's going to struggle since teams are going to lock in on him, when it fact the opposite is true. Most teams have no way to stop him, Flames included.
But no harm no foul. It's been proven that even he cannot carry the team all season long even with an MVP calibre season. The train wreck is too heavy of a load for him to carry. I actually find it more satisfying that the Oilers have an elite superstar player who wins awards every season, and it's STILL not enough to lift them out of the basement.
