There's 13* one-way contract forwards (including Tkachuk). 7 one-way contract defenseman and 2 one-way contract goalies.
That really leaves one forward spot up for grabs. Any other position, whether it's Hathaway's or Lazar's will really need someone to force there hand. Otherwise they won't take lightly to throwing away a million dollars on those guys playing in the AHL when their likely replacement would just be in the pressbox anyways.
Similar, while I assume Prout will be the resident face-puncher who sits most games, Kulak's one-way was not of their own volition so his position is the least secured. But it will still require one of the young guys to be obvious NHL ready that forces the team to pay Kulak $800,000 in the AHL. Interesting enough Prout isn't listed on the Flames roster, despite his one-way contract while someone like Peluso is with a two-way contract.
And finally with the goalies, Gillies got an intentional contract that is two-way contract this year and one-way contract next year, while Rittich has a one-way contract this year. It's obvious what they were going for entering training camp, whether Gillies forced their hand (or Rittich didn't impress) will have to be seen.
