He's just trying to be a good teammate.
It's in his own best interest to say, "We have it great lets just sign whatever the owners present to us."
Because Connor will get whatever he wants either way.
By doing things like signing for $12.5 instead of cap max, and stating that he is united with his brothers, he is sacrificing individual gain to insure plugs like Strome and Ryan get their $3 million dollars per season.
The NHL's top stars generally stand out in this way compared to other sports.
