Not quite sure I see the correlation. Same draft year and his worst year was better than Bennett's best. And 42 to 47 to 50 is a pretty linear, reasonable progression.
However, Sam Reinhart is a special case this year. After a very slow start to the season, he was near a point-per-game player from January onwards (29 points in his last 30 games). 3.65M for a 50 point player isn't going to handcuff the Sabres, obviously, but 3.65M for a point-per-game player would be huge.
