I've wondered the same thing. I get that people aren't crazy about Howard here but he'd be as solid a backup/1B as you could get I'd think. Also the Wings would love to move that salary.

I get that people want to see one of the young guys get the starts and learn on the job but this season seems more important to me than others. That the team not only wants to make the playoffs but needs to. Not the year for anyone to be learning in the net.
