It’s definitely not rare, but I look at how young talented players are generally developed at the NHL level and then I look at how the Flames have handled Bennett, and how they’ve filled out their bottom 6 in the last two years and I see absolute failure on the Flames behalf.
Bennett has struggled. He has fought inconsistencies like most other young players do - but the Flames have tossed him anchors when they should have been tossing him life preservers.
Bennett’s season is one of the most intriguing storylines for me this year. The improved depth up front is going to be huge for helping him and other young players develop.
Can you imagine if we had re-signed Stajan and not bought out Brouwer? What if Dube then did earn a roster spot? Dube - Stajan - Brouwer? Oh my, what a waste. We actually saw this happen to Mangiapane last year at the NHL level and Bennett the year before.
