here is what my councillor for Ward 12, Sean Keating, had to say when I emailed to let him know my thoughts

Good afternoon Swarly. Thank you for adding your voice to this discussion.
For my part, I am supportive of lowering residential speed limits to enhance community safety. But I think we should take a more incremental approach and move to 40km/h before going down to 30km/h. I wrote about it in my latest blog: https://www.shanekeating.ca/2018/09/05/30km/.
Pedestrian collisions are a real thing that impacts people in this city. And in a lot of ways, those collisions are preventable. From my perspective this is about reasonable trade-offs. Calgary is actually trending in a positive direction when it comes to pedestrian related collisions. But this is a policy change that could bring that number even lower. Are we prepared to accept some rather negligible concessions for motorists to bring that figure even lower? I believe that is entirely reasonable.
By way of this email I am copying in my assistant Meghan. I have asked Meghan to catalog feedback from Ward 12 residents for my consideration when this item comes before Council on Monday. Thank you for adding your voice.
