Comparing this contract to others from 4+ years ago is also problematic, particularly the long 7+ year terms. Players who sign long term deals have to take a discount as an insurance against injury and an uncertain salary cap. If you want to compare Wheeler to Crosby, imagine that Crosby had one year left on his deal and what his contract extension would look like. That's a better method.
