No doubt Wheeler is one of the best wingers in the league. However his career high was this past season and he's 33. I think this is a contract the Jets were dreading the closer it got. One of those contracts where they really had no choice to sign. Their cup window is now, he's the captain and heart & soul of the team. And he's an important piece.
Other teams might look to have sold high after the numbers he put up last season. However if they do hope to make the finals at some point, it won't be without him. Pretty much the perfect storm of a contending team, elite winger, age, performance and captaincy came together all at the same time.
Honestly, it reminds me of the Gio signing. The team really had no choice to sign him while he was still elite. You just hope he ages gracefully.
