In regards to the next United manager, I think the club may benefit from a stabiliser. Someone that may not win the league or CL but provides stability and completes the first phase of a long-term plan. The club's financial might allows it to complete short cycles of success and failure but I feel it needs a hard reset.
I don't really disagree about them needing some stability after this, but honestly, would supporters accept that? Everyone wants speedy success these days and "progress" isn't even really accepted beyond a season or so. Patience isn't exactly rewarded. I'm not saying I agree with that, but it seems to be the way of the world.

Look no further than Arsene Wenger. He won something like 3/4 FA Cups and yeah things weren't going great in the league and CL, but that's not exactly pathetic. Then you have Van Gaal...he won the FA Cup and everyone knew that wasn't enough to save him. I realise that people didn't love the style of play under him, and of course that's a factor, but the truth is people are impatient for league wins and CL wins.
