I've made this point in many alcohol-related threads in the past, but our drinking laws are positively Draconian.

You wonder why drinking gets out of control? Its partly because its vilified, partly because we as a society dont encourage social drinking in groups and partly because of outdated attitudes.

The fact of the matter is that a responsible adult should be allowed to enjoy a beer or some wine in the park on a nice day in a social setting without having to get the cops involved.

Want to play rec sports? Whats wrong with a few beers after the game with the team?

The thing is that we vilify drinking and ergo it becomes a problem as opposed to just making it a fun aspect of social opportunities.

You dont have to shotgun a 6-pack, you can sip and enjoy responsibly over the course of the evening or a few hours. Thats the difference.

Who wouldnt want to have the opportunity to stroll through some of our gorgeous parks with their significant other or their pets and enjoy a beer or two?

Where we stumble is locking people into dimly lit rooms which are the only place they're allowed to drink and theres nothing to do but drink and then we wonder why theres a problem with alcohol.

Dont even get me started on 'Beer Gardens' which are the single dumbest thing imaginable.
