You can't trade for a player that doesn't feel it's worth coming to North America and going through the rigors of an 82 game season for a reduced salary. What kind of doctor has the precognition to know that because Hossa's back hurts today he wouldn't be able to play in February? Would the Flames accept if Monahan's doctor said at the beginning of the season his back hurts and maybe he should take the season off? No they would want their doctors to monitor him and try to ensure he's back as soon as very possible. That's not happening here with the Wings because they know what's going on. Zetterberg should be treated like any other player that starts the season on IR in that they are in the city and dealing with team doctors while rehabbing. Does anyone think his back is going to get better after taking this season off and he's going to come back for $1 million the next season? Really?
