To bring this thread down a notch or 2. We're thinking of getting a third vehicle.
My daily driver is a older 4runner and its a great workhorse that I would like to keep as long as I can. I have some mechanical know how, so I like to do what work I can on it. But when I do, I am vehicle-less. If I need to run for another part or tool, or I don't get it finished before I have to go to work, im hooped. So ive started looking for a cheapo, reliable commuter car. Sub 3000$.
Im curious what makes people have experience with? I say anything Toyota will last forever. Then I see these awesome old Grand Marquis or Lincoln Town cars that look to be in amazing shape. Im not a "car guy" so I don't care if im seen about town driving a Grandma-mobile. My only gripe is visible body rust. It looks aweful.
I had a neighbour with 500000km on an older VW Golf. Ive heard of some Fords going forever.
Im leaning towards a Camry/ Corolla or an Accord, but would like to hear other opinions.
Also, anyone know of a shop that will do work with customer supplied parts?
