Whistler I can understand. If it's gonna cost $100M or to build something locally that will practically get absolutely no use after the games is done, then it's better to spend that money elsewhere. I wonder if there's a way to make a temporary ski jump though, because I'm finding it difficult to wrap my head around hosting a single event so damn far away from the actual host city. Flying doesn't make it that long to get there, but it kinda seems pointless to even bother with the event though.
Calgary will be getting a new arena in time for these Olympic games though, and the fieldhouse should be built with the original intention of twin ice arenas; where one of the rinks has a decent enough capacity seating for smaller scale events. So with that, I don't see the need to share with Edmonton or any other city for hockey/other ice events.
