After Profar stepped on the bag the runner was no longer obligated to go home due to a force play.
The runner from first was still obligated to go to second. So Calhoun was being lazy and hence why the Angels even with Trout are still no good.
I accidentally did something like this in slowpitch playing third years ago. Had a sharp hit ball right at the bag with the bases loaded. I tagged the runner at third first, than stepped on the bag and threw to first....of course the player umps from the previous game had no clue, and only ruled the person at first out.
I once had another play in fastpitch soft ball where I dropped a hard hit line drive with the bases loaded. Turned out to be a good idea because with the runners frozen and the batter pretty much stopping...it was an easy triple play made by accident.
