I just give mine to kids sports teams when they come to the door. It's a good cause and they can deal with the depot.

I think for the average person there is still an incentive to recycle them rather than throw them in the trash. If we removed the deposit more would go in the garbage. Also for items like tetra packs, I think the deposit covers a portion of the cost of actually recycling them.
