1) Buy air filters on ebay for $5 each (not $80 that dealers charge)
2) Do your own fluid changes, it's incredibly simple
3) For a second opinion take your car to inspecta car, they don't do any of the maintenance work so they aren't biased towards padding your repair bill
4) Take it to Kingsboro Auto for a second opinion. Most honest mechanics I've seen in the city
5) Avoid pretty much any major dealer in town for repair/maintenance work
