Mason does not have a history of being "dependable", so I'm not sure why we would even bother bringing him in at this stage. Rittich is just as good, and there are no clear evidence that would show Mason is a better option.

Yes, he had a bad year last year, which is why he would be cheap. Then you get the chance to see if you have that .906 goalie from last year, or the guy who went .917/.928/.918 in his first three years in Philadelphia. He at least has some history of being able to be a starting quality goalie, and he's only 30. I think it's worth a shot, if you want to go low risk. I can't imagine he's asking for a lot of money and, again, it costs you nothing in trade.
