I more or less agree that the hyperbole in New Era's post regarding futures is off the mark, but I also think he is absolutely correct about the importance of holding on to futures right now. I see a lot of discussion on either pole of this topic, with little taking place in the middle: Yes, the Flames situation in goal is not ideal, and it most certainly is something that needs to be addressed soon. But no, things are not so dire that something must happen today.
I am not surprised to hear that Treliving is actively working to upgrade in goal, and to provide some long-term stability, but I think this is yet another piece in a long process toward building a winner. I think it most likely that the Flames enter the season with the current group, and I would be against making a big deal for a goalie today because of the likely high cost. There is still time to make fruitful changes even after this season, and I expect that Treliving likewise takes a longer view of this.
