This team must be very careful about the assets it gives away moving forward. There is a significant talent gap in the system that was very similar to what Darryl Sutter left behind after he chased the brass ring for a couple of seasons. When the sugar high ended the system was in complete disarray and the team crashed hard. I don’t think we want to experience that again. Players like Bennett and Jankowski are needed for depth and salary cap control. All of our prospects on defense are going to be pressed into action over the next two years as we prepare for the probable departure of Stone, Brodie, and Hamonic. The system is already very thin as Treliving has traded away quality asset after quality asset. We can’t afford to be dealing away any more futures IMO. We need to make a Kiprusoff type deal where find a gem in the rough for next to nothing, and that player turns into a starter. That or we trust our own development system and give our players actual chances to prove themselves.
