Much as I love Jankowski, I have to think it's he's who Bergevin would accept. Montreal has to bring back a centre who actually plays centre.
From the Flames side of things, you've got your #1 and #2 established for at least the next two or three years. You just signed Derek Ryan, and you still have Bennett on the roster and Dube knocking on the door.
I don't want to trade Jankowski, but I have no compunction about moving him for the guy Mike Babcock starts when he has to win best on best international tournaments.

Well yeah...
If you can get Carey Price for half his contract and you have to give up BOTH Jankowski and Benett and a 1st and Valimaki, you do so and happily go on your way.
Carey Price is either the best or second best goalie in the game. He had a bad year last year, behind a truly bad team, but he's a gamechanging goalie. Price would be under contract until 38, which is perfectly fine for a goalie of his caliber, and while $10 million makes me think twice, $5 million is a steal.
Kipper used to steal a lot of games for us, and while you don't necessarily NEED elite goaltending to win, it's rare to win a lot of games without really excellent goaltending, especially in the playoffs.
I have no qualms giving up two bottom half roster players, a very good, but not blue chip, defense prospect, and a 1st for a guy who would make a world of difference for a team that's been looking for a goalie ever since Kipper retired.
