Some randome thoughts:
As an Atari 2600 owner, I was jealous of the graphics improvements when the Intellivision came out. But in terms of gameplay, the Atari always felt more fun. When Activision started making games, graphics quality improved enough that I didn't really care anymore. The next time I remember being blown away by graphics was when they showed screenshots of Pacman on the Atari 5200.
I will say, the Atari 2600 paddles were an innovative controller, and perfect for sliding games like Circus or Bomberman. If only they made Tempest for the 2600. I always wondered why paddles never caught on in other consoles, except maybe as steering wheel controllers.
And finally, I never knew who George Plimpton was until I read his Sidd Finch article. My first thought was "Is this the same George Plimpton?", then "Finch is going to break all of the records!", and finally, a month later, "I've never felt more disappointed yet in awe of an article in my (young) life".
