Default Windows 10 boot partition help!

My son's window's 10 pc failed to boot yesterday. It gave some kind of error about a required device not being accessible.

There's no DVD player or anything on it, so I built a repair disk USB key from another Windows 10 pc. I tried the automatic repair, but that failed. But was able to follow along these instructions: https://www.tenforums.com/bsod-crash...xc0000034.html

I thought I correctly rebuilt it, but tried rebooting to the hard drive with no luck.

I put the USB key back in, and instead of booting to the repair screen, it actually booted to his regular OS. So apparently I've applied a boot partition to the USB key that boots up to the windows on his SSD.

How do I get the boot partition or boot record or whatever back to the SSD?

I used to know this kind of stuff in a past life, but a lot has changed in 20 years so I am kind of blindly following instructions I find but not really knowing what I am doing exactly.
