Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of these guys are putting together a web-based, local sports platform of their own to rival the current radio station and other mediums in a much more dedicated fashion. I've always found there is a huge void in the local sports coverage on an intimate level here. If it wasn't for Pinder's 10 minutes every morning you often wouldn't even know this city/country has more going on outside of CFL and NHL sports.

I think for the most part web-based local sports is tough. You don't have enough scale to be able to properly monetize through advertising. You might get a couple of local sponsors, but not enough to allow it to be your primary gig. Basically it ends up being free or close to free
There have been several attempts (a couple by Mike Lownsbrough) to create a local web-based sports show, and from what I know they've pretty much failed.
