Why would you waste money to live AT school? Don't you ever have those days where you have to get away from school? Can't really do that if you live there.

Living with your parents = boring
Of corse you have to get away from school, there isn't a leash keeping you there. But, you'll be living with 60 other people on your floor alone, let alone the rest of your building and the rest of the other rez buildings. You wanna go out on a Monday? There will be people going out... you want to stay home on a Friday to study, there will be people doing that. You will always have people to hang out with and there is never a shortage of things to do. I moved to Calgary not knowing anyone, within 3 days I knew 50 people.
The time you save commuting back and forth to school are worth it. Let alone once you move out of trad (kananaskis and rundle) you can make your own food in the kitchen, thus saving you money rather than buying at school. The first year of university is stressful enough, I think making it as less stressful as possible is a good way to start.
