He may want to be bought out. He gets a big sum of money up front. He can then go try out for another team and get a new contract and hopefully get a larger role. Right now he might be pretty miserable in Calgary, feeling like he's trapped in a place he can't succeed. He's obviously not going to walk away from 9 million dollars in salary either.
