What I don't get is how social media outrage is quantified, and how the people who sanction their underlings determine where the line is where they 'have to do something.' Only a small fraction of people use twitter, and only a tiny fraction of those express outrage at these sorts of gaffes and offensives comments.
What would happen if twitter storms were simply ignored by the people in charge? Marginally more twitter outrage? Okay, ignore that too. 90+ per cent of people don't give a crap about any of this stuff.
