If they are willing to risk losing Kulak it's because they are considering starting Prout on the roster. And while Prout may not be an upgrade on Kulak in an actual defensive position what he does provide far more of than Kulak is toughness.

Which makes sense if the team is looking at playing Mangiapane, Foo, Klimchuk over the likes of yesteryears Ferland, Brouwer, Glass, Hathaway, Stewart.

Carolina under Peters last year had the least majors while the Flames had the second most. Could be a pretty quick cultural shift, but Prout does provide a little bit of deterrent against the big mean teams when needed.
