Now YMMV but if it were "not even close on-ice" I think we'd see better outputs from Stone. That's not the case.

This is a classic example of advanced stats not telling the story.
Watching that pairing last season in their own end, and it's very clear to me at least who the better defender is and it's not Kulak.
Stone actually has the ability to handle the big forwards in the West and battle down low, in front of the net. Kulak has blah attributes across the board. Passable as a #6 but certainly doesn't give me confidence when he's on the ice.
