Default Divisional Rivals Reach Agreement

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (AP)

The New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers today reached an agreement on a trade, announced Devils GM Steve R.

The Devils acquired 25-year-old defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron and a sum of $1,000,000 from the Rangers. Leaving the Devils are 26-year-old Christian Backman, ECHLer Ryan White, and a 3rd Round Pick in this year's Entry Draft.

"To get quality, you have to give quality, and Backman was a young defenseman we were quite excited about," explained the Devils GM. "We are very excited to acquire Marc-Andre, and feel he will be a central part of our defensive corps for a long time to come."

It is expected that Bergeron will join the also-recenltly-acquired Henrik Tallinder on the Devils' first defensive pairing. The Devils will try to extend their modest 2-game winning streak against Florida later today.
