You don't know what, if anything was said between VAR and the ref. FACT. Despite your earlier claim that they were talking and your latest that VAR dismissed it as not worthy.
Clattenburg is saying that if the ref had initiated VAR there is a high likelihood that the evidence would have resulted in a straight red for a deliberate stamp.

This is where I am confused? Does VAR talk to the ref first or does the ref have to do the tv signal first?
