Sorry but that is far beyond just having a different opinion, and maybe its my generation, but we grew up being told to stand up to bullies. Confronting him about his attitude, his rude comments about the dude's lesbian in the family, or really just standing up to the guy.
How he chooses to do that, up to him, but there is no way you guys think he is not intentionally trying to piss people off, trying to be up in their faces.
Has nothing to do with enforcing beliefs, its about not letting bullies get away with that kind of behavior. You can do it civil style, or however you choose, but for his lesbian family member comment alone, you don't just ignore the guy.
