Put a clean diaper down first. Then it is right there when you take the old one off and you can easily flip it up once the pee starts flying.
Or, open up the diaper for a bit of air, then close it up soon after because you know it's going to go soon.
Also, don't get cocky. He will pee all over you the second you stop taking precautions.
