Ryan had 38 points last year. To put that in perspective, that is more than Pacioretty, Kreider, Tuch, Coyle, Grabner, Saad and Neiderreiter, to name a few of the higher-end players people have been lobbying for.
And people are talking about him like he's Matt Stajan. We had the least productive bottom 6 in the NHL last year (for whatever reasons). Adding Ryan to the bottom 6 is not something that you should be calling for Treliving's head over.

Troy Brouwer scored 39 points the year before coming to the Flames as well, and now he's universally hated.
Carolina ran a 4 forward PP and rolled their lines much more evenly than the Flames.
Calgary played 2 D on the PP and played their top six a lot more than the Canes.
Now the question is whether Peters will run the bench like he did in Carolina or adapt to the personnel they have in Calgary.
If he runs the bench like he did in Calgary last season, if you aren't in the top two lines you aren't going to put up good point totals.
If Peters runs the bench as he did in Carolina, Ryan may be able to replicate his offensive totals, and perhaps a guy like Brouwer will have bounce back numbers.
Of course as always in the cap world, cap hit will be the biggest factor in the quality of this move.
Seems to me like the Flames aren't signing Ryan for the fourth line. He will be playing third line I would bet. Which bumps Jankowski to the 4th or the wing.
