I mean I guess I would consider a training camp invite. But I wouldn't want to commit a contract spot to a guy like this.

Agreed normally...but,
The Flames need bodies...a bunch of them. They are 22 contracts below the limit as it sits right now. Add in the 9 qualified RFA's and they are at 37 (5 of them goaltenders). They still need to sign at least 9 guys just to field a full AHL team.
I have no problem with guys like Yak given 2 way deals for 1 year...this year. That may change next summer, but for now they have room for those kind of longshots. Maybe not him specifically, but for sure reclamation projects. They can certainly start as camp tryouts and then sign, but whatever the case, the team needs players...at least as it sits right now.
