Full disclosure -- I've been following Ryan ever since he entered the league, I do this with some players (I watch all of their goals, keep track of their splits, etc). Some guys just catch my interest, and the story of Ryan coming over from Sweden as a star in their league to be an NHL rookie at age 29 really intrigued me.
The thing about Ryan is that the VAST majority of his goals come within five feet of the net, off of rebounds, close plays, the like. He's excellent at sticking with the puck when it's at the net, finding it, and jamming it home. He's certainly a little undersized but he has incredible offensive skill in close to the goalie, something the Flames have lacked on their powerplay for ages. In contrast to a guy like Brouwer, who shanks every shot that comes his way in front of the net, Ryan would be excellent considering his muck-it-up and deflection skills.
That's not to say he's awful on the rush or from further out, though. He's got a decent shot for sure. He's also a very good playmaker.
