But next Friday has to be 4 days from now. Otherwise the word next has no meaning. Next in line is not the third person. Take the next exit means the next exit. Next week means the next week. Next Friday cannot mean the Friday aftwr next Friday.

I have learned never to use the phrase next weekend now as it is pretty ambiguous given people's different interpretations. This argument is carried without consensus on numerous places on the internet.
