I believe the Dougie "me first" attitude is no better observed by his behavior when he was interviewed about his brother being claimed. I remember watching him repeat himself something along the lines of he was just there to help win hockey games. It was childlike and unoriginal.
I remember thinking at the time about how much controversy Freddie taking away a opportunity would cause for guys on the farm, in being rewarded for working hard. Makes a huge difference for those guys to go from an AHL to a NHL paycheck, even if it is for a couple of weeks.
Combine that with guys on the big club probably being frustrated by the team not having a chance to improve in that area, a "clog in the machine" so to speak. Freddie was given more than enough time show if he could stick. No question that was all about keeping Dougie happy.
