Just imagining that they signed JVR and Tkachuk stuck with the top line, I think there could be some interesting sets of lines. Barring a buyout of Brouwer (which I would do), I think that him and Lazar should share a role with Backlund and Frolik on a checking line.
That would leave a fourth line that you could set up as a young skilled line instead of a typical role player unit.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
JVR - Lindholm - Bennett
Frolik - Backlund - Brouwer/Lazar
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Foo
I prefer this kind of arrangement for guys like Mangiapane and Foo. They are skilled players who can get stuck trying to show their offence while playing with guys whose sole purpose is to dump the puck in, lay a hit, and then get off the ice. This kind of set up would give them a chance to play the type of game they showed in the AHL while being sheltered as they gain NHL experience.
