Hanifin is Bouwmeester, same type of player. Flames fans have become blind to the responsibilities of defensemen, they seem to forget that defensemen need to "DEFEND" first, which is something that Hamilton can't do.
Hanifin and Bouwmeester are similar players, they won't wow you with offense of physical play, but their great skating allows them to defend effectively.
There's a reason why Bouwmeester got selected by some of the best coaches in the world to play for Canada, despite all the hate he got on here.
Real NHL coaches value defensemen who can actually skate and DEFEND. If you can't defend, it doesn't matter how much offense you produce, see Wideman.
