Sounds legit to me. If you are a GM that has a shot at Kovalchuk, aren't you going to wait to see if he picks your team before giving up assets for Skinner or Pacioretty? I know I would wait.
Same with Tavares. I'm not going to give up assets for ROR until I know for sure Tavares isn't available to me.
Plus, the 1st round is a hold up too. The rumored ask for ROR was the 3rd overall pick (at least) from Montreal. Obviously the Habs didn't want to pay that price, so now Buffalo has to regroup and go back to other offers/discussions and decide if they now want to lower their asking price or not. And that goes for all the picks that were used today.
