The law is very specific: lack of intent is not an excuse. I don't yet know of any specific reason why Trump ought to be in prison. I can't say the same for Clinton.

Everyone is guilty and it's just a big conspiracy that all these lifelong criminal investigators are out to get Trump and not just the fact that a guy who's had shady dealings for 40 years flew too close to the sun and brought too much exposure on himself.
You obviously haven't heard the stories coming out about communications between high FBI officials before the election, agreeing to bring him down. That may not fit the legal definition of conspiracy, but they were confessedly out to get him.

I just really don't understand what it is about Trump that people are willing to throw away ideals and rationality in order to support him? Seriously, what is it? Why is this the guy?
I don't support Trump at all. But neither do I support the idiotic narrative that claims he is Literally Hitler, or Deliberately Out To Destroy The World, or the rest of that magnolious crap. He's a two-bit con artist who pulled off the biggest scam in history by knowing exactly how to torpedo his opponents at the most opportune moment. The trouble is, many of his supporters – possibly the bulk of them – know he's slime and have priced that into their opinion of him. Nobody could torpedo Trump with an ‘October surprise’ because the worst things about him were already public knowledge.
