Hanifin has similar potential as Hamilton and Lindholm has top 6 potential as well. This team has not been ready to compete for a cup. Hanifin and Lindholm could be good fits on Calgary now and for 5-7 years if the Flames signed them long term.
This current team has a 3 year window before Hamilton needs likely at least $8M per which is followed by trying to keep Gaudreau who will command at least $10M. I don’t think they are ready so swapping out a 25 year old for a 21 and 23 year old makes some sense to me.
I have felt since the season ended Hamilton was the guy on the outs. I prefer they find a comparable forward and make a blockbuster trade personally than the Canes deal.
