Its sort of the catch 22 of the modern game.
Theres so much attacking talent and the rise of the popularity of the 'False 9' has lead to many fewer genuine 9-type strikers, but the purpose of that striker wasnt always just to be the one to score the goals but as you said, to be a focal point to starting the attack.
Giroud does that well, I think at the moment the best in the game is a toss-up between Lukaku (for Belgium) and Lewandowsky.
